Tour Read Calculator

Estimate putting break from putt length, slope percent, and green speed. The tool assumes the standard read is Stimp 10, then scales the result up or down as the Stimp changes.

Stimp 10 applies a 100% adjustment, so the estimated read is 18.0 inches.

How to estimate putting break

Tour read estimates start with the Stimp 10 formula, then scale the number by green speed. Stimp 8 is 80% of the base read, Stimp 10 is unchanged, and Stimp 12 is 120%.

How it works
Quick context before you trust the number.

Enter putt length in yards and the slope percent from your read. The calculator applies Break = (2 x yards - 1) x slope percent, then adjusts the estimated break by Stimp divided by 10.

What inputs mean
Use normal playing numbers, not best-ever outliers.

Distance is the putt length in yards. Slope percent is entered as a normal percent value, so 2 means 2%. Stimp controls green speed relative to the default Stimp 10 baseline.

Common questions

What formula does the Tour Read Calculator use?

The calculator uses Break = (2 x yards - 1) x slope percent as the Stimp 10 baseline, then multiplies that estimate by Stimp divided by 10.

What does Stimp 8 do to the read?

A Stimp 8 setting uses 80% of the Stimp 10 baseline read. For example, an 18-inch baseline read becomes 14.4 inches after the Stimp adjustment.

Is this an exact putting read?

No. Treat it as a starting aim point. Grain, green contour changes, uphill or downhill pace, wind, and chosen capture speed can all change the final read.
